Refractive Laser Surgery

Research at the Alberta Children’s Hospital shows that patients who have significant farsightedness or nearsightedness and amblyopia may develop better eye sight and depth perception with laser-assisted subepithelian keratectom (LASEK) surgery. This procedure may be suitable for children whose lazy eye is not improving with glasses or contacts lenses and who had unsuccessful patching.

"This is especially true when children have concurrent medical diagnoses such as autism, cerebral palsy, developmental delay, Down syndrome or other associated ocular disorders."

J Cataract Refract Surg 2010; 36:260–267.

Our clinic has Orbscan technology to determine whether refractive surgery is an option for you. The Orbscan machine takes a 3-D image of your eye to precisely evaluate the elevation, shape and thickness of the cornea.
